’The OPT-NC connects its first fiber optic customers in KOUMAC

Initiated in 2015, the project aimed at connecting every New Caledonian to fiber optic is continuing to move forward. Indeed, technical teams connected the first optic fiber customers in Koumac and more precisely on the first connecting platform in the “South Koumac” area in early February 2020.

This constitutes a new phase of the roll-out program following the first connections of users in Lifou in July 2020.

Koumac houses three connecting platforms: South Koumac, Centre Koumac and North Koumac.

Commercial connections in the South Koumac area started to be made operational in February 2020.

It represents a potential of 96 fiber optic connections:

  • 55 access points for individuals and small professionals
  • 41 business access points
  • 16 customers are currently connected to fiber optic in the area where 22 km of fiber has been rolled out.

The New Caledonian section of the Adapted Military’s Company (RSMSA-NC), located close to an industrial area, was among the first professional customers to be connected.
