The OPT-NC Supports the OCEAN HACKATHON

The OPT-NC is providing financial and technical support to the 6th edition of the OCEAN HACKATHON (OH6), the very first one organized in New Caledonia, which will take place from November 5 to 7, 2021.

Organized by the World Sea Campus, the OCEAN HACKATHON event brings together 15 teams from around the world, made up of developers and technical experts. From Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7, 2021, teams from each city will compete for 48 hours non-stop around 10 challenges dealing with various themes such as fishing, shark risk, the impact of human activities on coral reefs, maritime safety...

The objective is to find tools and innovative solutions to the various challenges proposed, from data made available temporarily.

At the end of the weekend, a team will be elected to participate in the international pitch competition that will take place at the end of 2021 in Brest.

The organization of the OCEAN HACKATHON 6, supported by the Maritime Cluster of New Caledonia (CMNC), is a great opportunity to bring together the actors of the Tech and the sea around the two pillars of digital development and the control of the impact of human activities on our environment, CSO commitments supported by the OPT-NC. This is a great opportunity for New Caledonia to showcase its skills and know-how in this area, with a strong potential impact on its global influence.

It is for all these reasons that the OPT-NC wished to become a partner by bringing a financial and technical support to the 6th edition of the OCEAN HACKATHON. Moreover, two OPT-NC agents will be part of the final jury: Jean-Paul ROBERT, in charge of watch and prospective at the DGDPS, and Adrien SALES, head of the inter-application software engineering office at the DSI.

In 2021, New Caledonia has been selected among 15 international cities and territories to participate in the 6th edition of the OCEAN HACKATHON. The competition will take place in the OoTECH workspace located at 34 rue du Général Gallieni, Noumea.

Nouméa's participation in this international event allows it to contribute to providing tools and concrete solutions that are beneficial to New Caledonia.
